BLM Statement
Black lives matter. Unequivocally and endlessly.
Until this sentiment rings true and unopposed through all forms of government, in all industries, in every state, every county, every precinct, every school—until every textbook is rewritten—we will not stop. Yes, we have a long journey ahead. Yes, we must take care of ourselves in the process. But we have to start now. Black communities can’t wait on change. Black parents can not afford another day of fear and agony for their children. Black sons and daughters cannot afford another day of unequal opportunity. Black families can not afford another day, week, month, or year of mourning. We must act now.
We must work to create actionable changes to law enforcement and systemic racism—stateside and abroad. Make calls to your local gov. Volunteer your TIME and not just your money in the Black community. But also (for my white friends) definitely PAY YOUR REPARATIONS. Invest in the futures of every person in your community, not just the self. Research orgs and don’t just donate—understand what that organization seeks to accomplish and pursue other ways you can aid them in their goal.
There is so much more you can do, we can do, I can do. I will learn with you, and from you—all the while holding each other accountable to share that knowledge amongst your community. Remember—knowledge is power. They know that, and they want to keep that power out of our hands. DON’T LET THEM. Let’s lift each other up, support the different rolls of activism, but also always keep our ears open to constructive feedback on our approach. My ears are open for all of your feedback. I need it. We need it.
Above all—listen to the Black community. Period.
The roots of white supremacy are deep—they were built to withstand conscious uprising. BUT the collective strength of the people, without doubt, has the power to uproot the systematic oppression of Black people in America. I believe this with every bone in my body—and I have Black culture and Black resilience to thank for that hope.
